IF I WERE PRESIDENT
Watching the debates last night, I thought, "these
guys both make good points and have honorable intentions...and the solution probably lies somewhere in the middle.
If you look at our country as one big business, any business owner knows it is better to cut overhead and
improve your product quality, marketing and distribution, than to keep operations as they are and put more money into a declining
business.
That said, let's look at America as a business.
The U.S. government is the upper management;
the State government is local management and OUR SCHOOL TEACHERS ARE EMPLOYEE TRAINERS!!!
Who is going to do the work
and produce for this country? We do now, but our "training period" has already occurred and our kids
will be the workers of our future. How do we insure our workers are well trained to be top producers to turn out innovative
products for our business? To have a strong work ethic and desire to be successful and self-sustaining financially?
We give our Employee Trainers the subjects to teach that will accomplish our goal and the tools and support (including
adequate pay) to turn out a prepared work force.
What are the subjects?
Self-Empowerment Classes:
If the worker doesn't believe he can do a good
job, he won't. If he doesn't understand TAKING
RESPONSIBILITY is the main
route to higher self-esteem, he won't get there. If he doesn't feel good
about himself, he won't be a good worker. Teach that taking responsibility
for himself and setting
and achieving personal goals creates a healthy self-
image.
Personal Finance: No
matter how much a person earns, if that person does
not know how to manage his money, he'll never have enough.
He won't be
able to pay for health insurance b/c he had to buy that Harley. Our workers
should
leave their Training Period knowing how to handle money including
investing that money and protecting their assets
(including their health)
with insurance. Then, they won't have to keep going to Management
(government)
for help. No worker should be released from training until
she's read RICH DAD, POOR DAD, knows how to
balance her checkbook,
analyze a stock or mutual fund's performance and determine if a piece
of
real estate is a good buy.
Competitive Courses: It was stressed last night that
the US is lagging
behind other countries in Math & Science scores. What does a business
do
when the other company is beating it? The management of that
business analyzes the better performing company
and determines why
that company's widgets are outperforming its widgets. What are the
better
performing countries teaching? How are they teaching it?
At what age do they introduce each new subject?
I'm sure there are more you can think of, but these would be a
phenomenal start at improving our upcoming
workforce,
production and economy.
Now, what about the existing workforce, you and me?
There
are a myriad of issues, but basically we want a healthy, productive worker.
We can't wave a magic wand and
fix all the adults out there who are unemployed, unhealthy, do not have health insurance, are addicted to substances, have
anger management issues, have insufficient skills to earn a decent living, do not possess good parenting skills, etc.
What can we do?
We are a business, remember? Unemployed Americans are "laid-off" workers.
We need those workers
producing for us. They are not improving our product line, sales, operating procedures
by sitting
at home watching Oprah. We need them back at work. How do we accomplish this? Upper
management stops fighting about who's better and focuses on new product lines (windmills, solar panels, etc.) to
produce that will create revenue and jobs for the company...and then actually opens plants to
manufacture
the products by encouraging new businesses in those product lines with tax incentives, start-up loans, etc.
What about health care and insurance? As a healthy American, I think it is ridiculous that I pay $3500 per year
for health insurance when I go to a doctor maybe twice a year. Once for my annual check up and sometimes once more if
I need some Allegra for sinuses or I get pink eye or something weird like that. Otherwise, I don't go...but I have
to pay $3500 a year just in case someone rear-ends me. That's ridiculous.
I realize I'm atypical.
But, hey, why is that? Wouldn't our business be much better off if I was
the norm? The typical
worker? A healthy worker? What a way to cut costs! And improve production! How could this be accomplished?
What if we rewarded the healthy workers? Gave them financial incentives to stay fit and healthy? Bonuses for good
health? Recognition for staying fit?
Any national health care program should have tiers depending on your
level of health. Healthy workers are a group of workers who get rewarded for staying fit with lower premiums.
I know what you are thinking; what about those workers who have cancer through no fault of their own, or other diseases?
This takes us to an issue no one is discussing:
MOST ILLNESSES ARE PREVENTABLE WITH PROPER DIET, EXERCISE AND EMOTIONAL
COUNSELING.
That's it. I said it. I am very grateful for my health and very aware that it comes
from various factors. Inherited genes do play a part, but I eat healthy, exercise every day and continuously work on
my mental and emotional health. I have taken RESPONSIBILITY for my health, physical and emotional.
Instead
of bowing down to big drug companies who want you to think you have to have some illness at all times or you are not normal,
our business will commit to teaching our workers what causes illness (many times it is an emotional issue manifesting as a
physical abnormality/pain/illness); that the human body is designed and fully equipped to remain in a healthy state at all
times and offer access to APPROPRIATE EDUCATION AND TREATMENT including alternative medicine teachings and techniques such
as spiritual counseling, acupuncture, massage, light therapy, low-electro-impulse therapy, color therapy, healthy eating,
personal trainers, etc.
Yes the big drug companies will suffer when our workers get healthy, but the money that
was going to pay for drugs can now go to pay the professionals offering the healthy services such as counseling, awareness
workshops, massage and personal training. The drug companies can even produce herbal products to assist our workers
in staying healthy. Our workforce will be healthy, more productive and much happier. Who doesn't prefer a
massage to a cat scan?
Let's move on to adequate Parenting Skills. Having represented abused and neglected
children in court, I've had a bird's eye view of how poor our parenting skills are in America. Our present workers
are not properly preparing our future workers who are in their care and control to be successful, self-empowered, self-sufficient,
RESPONSIBLE workers. What do we do about this?
WE, as a company, have a duty to ensure our infant
workers are properly cared for in their early years of training with the company. Therefore, it is upper management's
duty to provide proper training to the caretaker workers BEFORE they are entrusted with the infant worker.
ALL
PARENTS WILL BE REQUIRED TO COMPLETE A PARENTING COURSE BEFORE THEY MAY LEAVE
THE HOSPITAL WITH THEIR BABY.
Yes. I said that too. How do we implement this? How do we pay for it? There are many ways.
A sliding scale payment rate based on income (like Planned Parenthood). That's an idea, let Planned Parenthood oversee
it. Make it a part of insurance coverage. Let hospitals offer it as a service. Social Services. Local high
schools and colleges in the evenings. Therapists and counselors. You get my point. It can be done.
And require
the workers with child workers in their care to get updated parenting skills as the child grows. If the parent worker
fails to take the future parenting classes, they are fined. Once the classes are completed with one child, the parent
does not have to retake them with subsequent children.
I'm tired of writing, so that's all for now.
But that's what I'd do if I were President.
Love ya.
